Winter in Iowa can be beautiful. Though it can also be brutal. Here’s the view from our window last week.

It looks enchanting and serene, I agree. Until you go outside and get knock off to the cruel reality that the temperature was a bone-chilling -15 F (-26 C)?
Since then, we got another foot of snow. So here’s the dreamy view (photo below) from our window this week. It’s an ocean of snow!

Even though the sun is out, it is still -6 F (-21C). So dream on.
However, below is a starkly different view. This is a photo I took in between the two above photos, when we briefly escaped Iowa for a few days to visit our daughter in Florida.

The temperature? A balmy 82 F (28 C)!
Should have stayed out of Iowa, right? Nah. I like the bitter cold, and I like to surf with my shovel in the ocean of snow. It builds character. And like Elsa in the movie Frozen said: “The cold never bothered me anyway.”
Yeah, right.
