Posted by On July 2012, a South Korean musician, named PSY, released the song “Gangnam Style” with its iconic horse-riding dance. The song took over the world after its release, even if the song is mostly in Korean. With combination of its funny social satire, addictive beat, and of course the interesting dance moves, this song was the first YouTube video to reach 1 billion views.
PSY in this song mocks the ostentatious, wealthy, and trendy lifestyle of people living in Gangnam. He also released other songs that also became known, but nothing bigger of a hit than Gangnam Style.
Fourteen years later, on July 2026, Pinoytransplant visited Gangnam, an affluent and busy district located in the southeastern part of Seoul, South Korea. Gangnam literally means “south of the river,” combining the words gang (river), and nam (south), as this place is south of the Hans River in Seoul.
Of course I have to dance the Gangnam Style!
