An Anniversary Getaway

December is our anniversary month. So my wife and I escaped to a secluded retreat somewhere in New England (northeastern US) to celebrate our 29th wedding anniversary. Here is a photo story of our trip.

The resort was tucked in a forested mountain surrounded with hundred of acres with walking trails to explore. In the heart of the property is an old farmhouse that serves as the main house built before the turn of the 19th century. Because it’s the holiday season, Christmas decorations can be seen everywhere.

From the festive entryway that welcomed us:

To the warm foyer as we entered in:

To the lodge’s charming common area (where my wife was working on a jigsaw puzzle):

To the airy dining hall:

And even in our cozy room. They were all beautifully adorned..

Though my favorite Christmas decor was found in a barn outside. Here is rustic wreath made out of sticks with a bird’s nest on it. They said that the nest was not man-made, but a real bird built a nest on this wreath. Would it be better if there are little birdies on that nest singing Christmas carols?

We love the cottage where we stayed. You can literally spend the whole day there doing nothing. It was idyllic and peaceful, and was strategically located that we can see the sunrise:

And the sunset, without leaving our room.

And if we go out at night, the scenery was dazzling too.

The food in this resort is not too shabby as well. We tried hard not to indulge so much or else our belly will bulge out that we will look like Santa Claus.

From the hot morning brew:

To the exquisite desert:

And to the relaxing nightcap (it is apple cider, since we don’t drink alcohol), they were all a delight.

Before our trip, we were praying that there would be snow in this place as the forecast called for a seasonably warm weather. We were not disappointed, as there was plenty of snow.

We even tried an activity we have not done before- snowshoeing. This activity requires less skills than other winter sports we tried in the past, like ice skating and skiing. This is virtually just walking with large shoes.

Photo above is my wife following the trail guide. Photo below is me. I look like Goofy with those giant shoes.

What other winter activity could we try next? I would like to do dog sledding, or better yet, reindeer sledding. Without Santa, of course.

We also tried our hands in watercolor painting. The last time I drew with watercolor was back in my grade school days. I may not be Claude Monet, but I like how my painting turned out. Not bad eh?

But the best painting we made was painting picturesque and colorful memories together that we will cherish the rest of our lifetime. Or at least until our memory starts to fail. Here’s to wishing for more anniversaries to come.

Happy anniversary my dear.

From the mountains of New England,

Pinoytransplant.
