On our last trip to California, our flight got delayed for several hours because of storms. We were circling in the air for almost an hour above Denver before we were permitted to land for our layover. We did not miss our connecting flight though in Denver, for they stop all in-coming and all outgoing flights for more than an hour until the storm passed by. That caused a domino effect of delays.
Instead of the our 9:30 PM time of arrival, we landed in San Jose past midnight. All the rental car offices at the airport had closed, so even though we have reserved a car, we were not able to get it that night.
We called for an Uber car instead to get to our hotel. When our Uber ride came, it was a Tesla Model X. Yes, a Tesla! We were in Silicon Valley after all, and we are in California, the state that has the most Teslas.
Honestly, I have not ridden a Tesla before. I rode on an Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lexus, Lincoln, Mercedes, Porsche, Volvo, and even a Ferrari before. But not on a Tesla.
I know in some parts of Europe, like in Germany, their taxis are Mercedes. I guess what we consider luxury in some places can be considered ordinary in others. Then there’s a place here in the US, that the taxi is not any of the car model you know. In Mackinac Island, Michigan, their taxis are horse carriages (see previous post here).
So I asked my son, what should be the Uber ride in Iowa? In my mind it should be a pick-up truck, as according to one report, pick-up trucks are the most popular vehicle here in Central Iowa. However, before I can say it, my son blurted out, “John Deere!”

Have not seen a tesla even. We like to keep it with german cars only if possible to support the country.. and yes, i have a friend from india and the first time she arrived in germany, she refused mercedes taxi because she thought it will be expensive. But she cannot find a taxi that was not a mercedes and it was getting late so she took one and just paid the usual price. 🤣
That’s funny. I would like to ride on a Mercedes taxi. I guess Tesla is only popular in the US then.
Honestly, this is the first time I heard of Tesla cars.
I guess Tesla are only popular in the US. I have also one reader in Germany and she has not seen a Tesla either. Tesla are luxury electric cars that are expensive, though I believe they are lowering the price now to make it competitive with other cars.
