15 years.
That’s how long I have been blogging. That’s how long this blog site have been in existence. That’s how long my writings have been circulating in the blogosphere. Is that an accomplishment? I am not sure.
There are certain things in this world that takes 15 years or more to mature or develop. For example, top-tier Bordeaux wines, particularly those from Médoc or Pauillac, age well for 15+ years due to their high tannins and balanced structure. 15 years of waiting for it to age, yet a bottle would be probably consumed in a few minutes of a drinking binge.
There are also certain orchid species, like Lady’s Slipper Orchid (Cypripedium), which is a rare orchid species, that can take up to 15 years to bloom. That’s a lot of years of anticipation to see its flowers. But at least the flowers will last for up to 3 months before they fall to the ground.
However there are things or events in this world that maybe 15 years is too long, and you want it to end. Like the devastating World War I followed by the global economic crisis of the Great Depression which occur from 1914 to 1929. I’m sure the people who lived that era would agree with me that that 15 years was way, way too long.
Then there are things that took 15 years to build but last for a long, long time. For instance, the Ankor Wat in Cambodia, which approximately took 15-20 years to construct way back in the early 12th century, and yet it is still standing today and is one of the most visited spots on earth, receiving over 2.6 million visitors a year.
After 15 years of blogging, I hope that my writing has matured like a fine Bordeaux wine. I hope that my blog site have blossomed in season like the Lady’s Slipper Orchid too. Though I also hope that this blog’s long existence is not a nuisance or a burden like the WWI and Great Depression. And lastly, I am not being delusional that this blog will last as long as the Ankor Wat, but what I am just hoping is that this blog will stay relevant and still visited even after many years of existence.
Thank you for all of you readers who continue to drop by at my humble site. Here’s to more years of blogging.
