On my last post, I indicated that my daughter moved to Florida for work. So this last weekend, I flew to Florida to visit her.

That’s not me flying on the above photo. I think that’s a stork. I took this photo and the photo below from the balcony of my daughter’s apartment. The palm trees that abound in this place clearly tells us that this is not Iowa anymore. This is a warm tropical place.

I was able to see the apartment where my daughter moved in to, the university where she would work, and the surrounding place of her residence.
I came to visit, even if it was a very short one (2 days), to offer assistance, or it’s really more for moral support. My wife will stay with her for a little longer, like a week or two, to help her settle and unpack. Though her things that was shipped by the moving company will not arrive until next week. So her apartment was still empty except for some clothes and a roll-up bed.
This reminded me when I first came to the US, my very first apartment was in New Jersey. I had only 3 things in my place for several days – a landline phone (this was before the era of cell phones), a sleeping bag, and the iron and its ironing board (which serves also as my study table and dining table). We all need to start somewhere.
Back to my short visit to Florida, we even made a quick trip to see the nearby beach.

Seeing the ocean is now a rarity for me, as Iowa is a land lot smack in the middle of a large continent and it is 1,000 miles to see the Atlantic ocean (east),1,500 miles to the Pacific ocean (west), and about 1,000 miles to the Gulf of Mexico (south). North of the continent is the Arctic ocean which you cannot even drive to and definitely do not want to go there unless you are a polar bear. By the way, this coastline (photos above and below) is the Atlantic ocean.

I would like to enjoy the sun and the hot weather but I did not have time for a swim nor even to linger a little longer. But I certainly will come back, for I did not even dine at the nearby Filipino restaurants in the area and eat kare-kare and halo-halo. And of course to visit my daughter again.
Time for me to fly back home.

Florida looks lovely. But i always have this idea that crocodiles are everywhere.. 🤔
Yes, both crocodiles and alligators are found in Florida. There’s some stories I heard when I was still living there that they can even creep in to home’s swimming pool that are near the lake. But what drove me out of Florida are the crocodiles in the corporate/business world.
Just realized from your post how we take for granted the beaches that surround us here in the Philippines. Ganun pala iyon….
God bless po, Doc at sa inyong mag-ina sa Florida!
True, we take for granted this simple things, until its not available for us anymore.
